Purslowe & Chipper Funerals
At Purslowe & Chipper Funerals we help bring your family together to arrange a funeral service that truly celebrates and honours the life and values of your loved one.
Most of our funeral directors have been in the industry for more than 10 years. We offer families a wide range of funeral service options from our 10 funeral homes and chapels.
Chipper Funerals started serving families in Western Australia in 1889. However, the Chipper name was associated with West Australian before that. John Chipper arrived three months after the establishment of the Swan River Colony in 1829, and started to carve out a career for himself.
Generations later, John’s grandchild, Donald J Chipper, and his wife Florence founded a funeral home in Murray Street before moving to Hay Street. The Chipper family is extremely proud of the contribution made by Florence who ran the family business for more than 10 years after her husband died. Since then two more generations of Chippers have continued the tradition of providing care and support to families in the community.
The Purslowe Funerals story began with James William Purslowe who moved to Western Australia during the gold rush of the late 1800s. A wheelwright by trade, James was called on by local undertakers to make coffins and often assisted with their duties.
As a Methodist lay preacher James observed the importance of a funeral service to families. His community asked him to take on the role of a funeral director.
By 1907 Purslowe Funerals was established and began operating full-time from its premises in Northam.
Two more generations of Purslowes continued to deliver funeral services and expand the business over the years. The current generation includes Colin and Mark Purslowe who have served as past presidents of the Western Australian divisions of the Australian Funeral Directors Association and in 2003 both were awarded the AFDA's highest honour, the Master Funeral Director.
Purslowe Funerals and Chipper Funerals came together in 2017 and bring more than 235 years of combined experience in serving families in our local communities in and around Perth, Rockingham, Mandurah and surrounding areas of Western Australia.
We believe that every funeral service should be unique, and there are no set rules for where or how to hold a funeral. Our funeral directors can help you arrange a personalised service at any location including churches, parks, beaches, and wineries. We also offer repatriation services worldwide.
Purslowe & Chipper Funerals has all the facilities you might need to arrange and hold your loved one’s funeral in a chapel setting, including complete audio-visual equipment, live-streaming, function rooms for after-funeral catering and condolence lounges.
With our professional expertise we turn what can be a worrying and stressful time into a well-run event that reflects the life of your loved one. Our funeral directors are highly skilled in bringing everything together for a funeral service in a very short timeframe, while giving you the time to plan exactly the funeral you want. The funeral director will manage all the paperwork on your behalf, and liaise with suppliers for you, so that you can focus on yourself, your family and the other guests.
